A Word for Living Creatures

I said goodbye

without saying

the word,

without giving

you one, final kiss.

You awoke

this morning, and

I was gone.

Don’t look for me.

You won’t find me.

You won’t miss me.

I know this. I’m gone.

You might think this

is tit for tat. It’s not.

It’s survival.

I mean to survive.

I have all I’ll need -

the knife, the water -

and left you

the rest.

You’ll be fine.

I’ll be fine.

You’re on your side

of the wilderness,

and I’m on mine.

I plan to survive.

Don’t bother looking.

I’ll be gone -

Goodbye, love.

Goodbye, you.
